Valve & Shim Tool

These tools are perfect for the job and the pouch is really practical. ( I use the pouch to keep my filler gauge handy. The tool goes very well on the intake side. A bit more difficult* on the exhaust side (K75) ‘it sits on the rough areas of the cam shaft, which can vary in roughness.

I have an 8 valve K100, and this was my first attempt at valve adjustment. I had the cylinder head reworked, so all 8 valves needed adjustment. My first use of the tool was a little bit of fumble. The use of a strong magnet is handy for removing/installing the valve shim. But by the 8th valve the operation went pretty smooth. I applied some oil to the compression tool and it had no problem overcoming valve spring force. The hold-down tool worked Okay, if it was maybe 5mm thinner it would fit a little better. Overall I would give it a 3.5 out of 4.

I used this tool to verify and replace a few shims on my 1985 BMW K100RT motorcycle. The hook worked perfectly in pushing the buckets back for shim replacement. The holder fit precisely and was easy to position and remove. Cheaper than the OEM tool and works well.
