The development of the “Dakar” engine protection plate began shortly after the 1200 GS was introduced. Extreme rides however proved that further improvements were possible and so the ”Extreme” protection plate was subsequently developed as a result. For many riders, our lower priced “Dakar” plate is more than sufficient and indeed, a vast improvement over the stock plate. The ”Extreme” plate is for the extreme rider, who might wind up in places where there’s some serious rock bashing to be done.
First, a sturdy aluminum carrier fitted with silent block bushings is bolted to the bottom of the engine. The ”Extreme” plate then attaches to the carrier. This design allows rubber mounting of the plate, an important attribute for such a part. The carrier however allows the rubber mounts to be positioned to the outside of the sump and the result is increased ground clearance as compared to other mounting systems.

• Steep angle in front to prevent getting “hooked”.
• Protects the collector at the rear.
• Ground clearance increased by 25 mm (1”) compared to original.
• 4 mm (~5/32”) thick + strong aluminum plate.

Extreme Skid Plate |
| I looked at all the skid/sump plates on the market and was very happy when I found yours. It took under a week to ship internationally, its very good construction, looks like it would take a hell of a beating and adds a bit of muscle to the look. This should be fitted as standard equipment on the GS. I got the matching stand protection plate; both fit my 2012 R1200GS perfectly. |

| Nice product and quality looks great. There is a difference though in the description of the plate where it says 'swages for strength ' my extreme skid plate has no swages just smooth, so they may have changed the design and just forgot to update there description. Other then that I'm happy with the plate. It is going to be a little more effort to remove for oil changes due to the fact you have to remove plate as well as support bracket. oh well the price you pay for protection! |

| The plate looks very nice and provides great support. The design seems rock solid, with better compressibility than the OEM design; but I hope to never test it fully. I know it will hit ground on my BMW GSA as when loaded up for camping it was easy to bottom even the stock skid plate and this on looks to be hung a bit lower. The only bummer is it will take a few attempts to get good at dropping the plate for oil changes. Assume another 15-20 minutes added to oil change times for removal and reassembly. Tech support was very helpful and prompt in answering my questions on the product. Not hard to install even the first time, just put a pad down to be comfortable while laying on your back. Goes for oil changes too! |
