Oil Cooler Guard

The oil cooler of the K1600 GT, GTL, Bagger and Grand America is well positioned for the onrushing air stream, unfortunately, the result of this is that anything carried by this stream finds its way into the cooler. Stones, insects and grime fill up the delicate fins of the cooler and cannot be removed without extensive labor, and usually the cooler fins bend and never look the same again.

This cooler guard uses a finely meshed grill that ensures the cooling properties remain unaffected. The size of the opening between the wires is 5mm square (3/16") and the grill is precision welded to the steel fame at several points. The entire assembly is powder coated and it will resist chips and remain in great conditions for many thousands of miles.

First thing to point out. These directions whether pictures or not are just plain HORRIBLE!! The 2022 K1600GT has the front facia or side panels that must be removed or loosened to gain access to the screws. Once the part is in place it looks really nice. Wunderlich really needs to have someone proofread, translate, and provide up to date pics of the installation. Put it on the web site. Anyone can download them. No one who installs these parts does not refer to the web instructions anyways since we can blow up\maximize the screen to get a better view on the steps.

The fit and finish of the oil cooler guard are outstanding, which is always expected from Wunderlich America products. I used the video to guide me in the installation. Although it is a bit pricey, I would definitely recommend it.

Installed on my 2022 GT. You will need a low profile torx bit set as the fairing is closely located to bolts that fasten the guard to the brackets. Very high quality parts.

I really do like the look. Wunderlich has some great accessories, but... this damn thing. “Easy install” is subjective. I had to go to Home Depot to get some tools to help me access the covered screws.. didn’t help. Unless you have little-girl hands, accessing the screws is a serious bitch. I spent almost an hour trying to install this guard. No way in hell it can be done unless you have tiny hands. I had to have my wife tighten the screws. That said.. looks great. I hope my wife really tightened those screws down. And I used lok-tight 👍
