|
This set of wind deflectors are fitted above the mirrors and next to the wind screen and effectively re-direct the onrushing wind and rain over the riders hands. Working in combination with the windscreen, they reduce the load on the riders arms and upper body.
The deflectors are easy to fit, and are supplied as a set of left and right side complete with metal brackets and full fitting kit. Can be used with original or Wunderlich screens. No modification to the bike are needed.
Important fitment note: These wind deflectors are available in either clear or tinted Lexan and there are two versions of each. R1200 RT up to and including 2009 models and 2010 models an later. Please choose the correct version for your bike.

Installed these on a 2012 RT after having them on a 2009 RT. Installation is not difficult but the previous comment about the turn signal housing not fitting as snug as before applied here too. I like the deflectors finding that they give me extra protection from buffeting around the shoulders and upper arms. Still have the stock windshield so no interferrence problems there.
Installation causes the turn signal panels not to fit as tightly as previously. Couldn't feel any significant difference in the air flow but did notice that there was some adverse effect when riding in crosswinds. Also there was an interference with the deflectors with the windshield in the lower positions. This is with a CalSci screen. Decided to remove the deflectors.
The Wunderlich America Winder Deflectors greatly increased the wind protection capsule on my 2010 R1200rt. Before the installation of these deflectors. the air stream boundary layer barely cleared my forearms, while my upper arms and shoulders bore the full blast of the air stream. After the installation of the Wind Deflectors, my forearms, upper arms, and shoulders, happily, resided in calm air. These Air Deflectors are high quality and look like BMW factory components, not shoddy aftermarket add-ons. Installation is straight forward, however be aware that the BMW set screws which hold the mirrors in place, in the mirror housings, are difficult to see and to access. Here is a suggestion for the removal of the mirrors, without loosening the set screws. Push the mirrors to the inside lower quadrant of their housing. Grasp the mirrors on the their exposed outside upper quadrant. Pull the mirrors outward from that position while supporting the mirrors with your other hand. The mirrors will drop out, and can be replaced with even pressure applied to their centers. Be careful with this procedure, do not drop these components.
If you plan on purchasing this item be aware that it will not do much wind deflection if you have the standard R1200RT windscreen. There is no overlap to the wind screen with these deflectors. I have an aftermarket windscreen which is larger than the stock one and still no noticeable deflection. If you have the Wunderlich windscreen # 8110195 it will work well with the deflectors, see the photos on the Wunderlich site. Unfortunately I am unable to return them due to their policy. The Wind Deflectors are well made, no problems there.
