The slipper clutch technology permits you to change down quickly and smoothly without the typical brief hopping or blocking effect at the rear wheel.

On a motorcycle without a slipper clutch, when downshifting the engine’s entire braking horsepower is transmitted via the chain or belt to the rear wheel. As this brake horse power can only be partly transmitted through the tires when you’re quickly changing down gears, this can lead the tire to slip or to shudder. This is where the slipper clutch comes into its own: the excess power is “eliminated” by means of a controlled freewheel. Or, to put it another way, when the force is generated that would otherwise cause the rear wheel to lock, an optimally adjusted slipper clutch will kick in to prevent the blocking and to ensure that the maximum possible bhp is transmitted smoothly to the ground through the tires.

A further advantage of the system is that the gearbox and drive chain will also be placed under less strain. The slipper clutch is becoming increasingly popular in off-road use. The result of the smoother braking phase is increased rider safety.
