    Description

    Sportego Bar Conversion Kit

We have developed an exclusive, adjustable tapered handlebar conversion of the highest quality for the K1200 and K1300 S, R and K1200 R Sport models. The upper fork bridge reveals some technical innovations that have never been seen in this form.

    The facts:

    • The upper fork bridge has two threaded holes that actually serve as connectors for the hydraulic lines. The original hydraulic lines need not be replaced for longer ones or re-routed and they also do not obstruct or chafe the instruments. (Saves workshop time and costs)
    • Quick and easy conversion: Replace the upper fork bridge, attach the controls to the new handlebar, attach the original brake lines beneath the clamp and install the upper (supplied) lines between to top of the bridge and the controls, bleed, and you're ready to go. Our tip: ABS vehicles should only be bled by a BMW dealer). Click on the installation instruction link for complete details.
    • Up to 30 mm adjustment range for perfect ergonomics
    • Mount for tapered handlebars (29 mm diameter): Guaranteed maximum stability for further enhanced steering precision and an optimum absorption of forces (impacts/vibrations).
    • Individually adjustable, rubber steering stops can be adapted to all fairing screens etc. and also prevent damage to frame
    • Strong aluminum (AL 7075 T6), the preferred type for aerospace applications.
    • Intricately machined on several planes.
    • Extremely warp-resistant: Before the yoke has buckled by even one millimeter even a tapered handlebar will have bent by 10 centimeters!
    • Approved by the very strict German TÜV.
    • Made in Germany.

This fascinating premium quality conversion enhances the appearance of your "K" and also improves the ergonomics and the overall riding experience. The "Power-Sportego" upper triple clamp includes hydraulic lines, handlebar clamps, adjustable steering stops, hardware and complete instructions.

Handlebars are sold separately We carry both Rizoma handlebars and ABM handlebars, both are available under the Related Products.

K1200/1300 R and K1200 R Sport owners, please Note: It will be necessary to also replace the throttle cable with a longer cable, available under the Related Products.

K1200 R models require throttle cable part number 8410120

The best money that can be spent on an aftermarket item IMO.
    (Riverside, Ca) | March 17th, 2014
The added confidence and comfort afforded with this accessory is astonishing; but not surprising if one knows anything about "leverage". My K1200R instantly felt as if it lost over 100 pounds in weight, and the riding position is infinitely more comfortable at "real-world" speeds between 0 and 90mph rather than ethereal triple digit speeds. The workmanship/machining is first rate, and the image in my rear-view mirrors even cleaned up to HD TV quality thanks to the conical/tapered handlebars vibration dampening attributes.
    Longer Rides Made Possible!
    (Stittsville, Ontario) | November 24th, 2013
The Sportego Bar conversion kit has allowed me to adjust the handlebars on my K 1200 R so that my glutes can rest on the wide part of the seat. I now enjoy a 10 degree bend of the elbows making the ride much more comfortable and feel I have more control of the bike especially at slow speeds. Longer rides are now possible and greatly enjoyed. I am 5' 11" and weigh 200 lbs. and a retired fighter pilot with some related back issues. Previously I was forced sit very close to the fuel tank on the very narrow part of the seat. My arms were at full extension to reach the hand grips with no bend in the elbows. I found this to be tiring and at slow speed having to work very hard to steer aggressively. The materials in the kit are of the highest quality. The step by step instructions are excellent and very well illustrated. I would suggest two tips to installers; 1) Step 8 image "J"...I strongly suggest using a drill bit slightly larger than 8 mm to remove the ignition switch in order to drill out the head in one go. I did this on the first fastener with good success, but the associated chatter from the bit contacting the fastener head led me to believe I should drill the head with a smaller bit (for greater control) and gradually increase the size until the head was removed. The later process resulted in work-hardening of the material making it more difficult to enlarge the hole to pop the head of the fastener off. 2) Step 16 image "H" calls for a 5/16" hole to be drilled in the handlebar to remount the hand grips. In my case (a 2006 K 1200R) the hand grips are mounted with a 4 MM screw which requires drilling and tapping the handlebar for this fastener. This will be obvious when the hand grips are removed from the original bars. Although expensive the results are very worthwhile.
    End of pain
    (San Andreas, Ca) | September 28th, 2012
Iv'e had 3 major back surgeries, 2 of which are fusions, both elbows, wrist, knees: 10 orthopedic surgeries to date.I love sport bikes but can,t be bent over for very long. I can only ride my Ducati Monster for about an hour. With this bar set up I can ride my K1200s all day, and have been on multiple day trips with no pain whatsoever.I'm 54 and recommend this setup for anybody who cannot be in the traditional sport bike position for very long.GO RIDE ALL DAY!!
