Wunderlich Tachometer

The tach is excellent, well made, and the bracket is sturdy and well finished. It looks beautiful and almost "factory" when installed. About the install, not particularly hard if you know how to follow their wiring diagram and can solder. My nickpicks are that the four wire harness that comes with the tach is generic in that the wire lengths are about 8 inches short of reaching the 12v power tap off the accessory socket above the left cylinder. Wunderlich provides extra wires so you can extend the harness but the wires are not all matching in color to the harness. They also provide a bunch of tie wraps to attach the wiring harness to the frame and other places. And some shrink wrap tubing, but the longest tubing for the harness is painfully too big in diameter. It would never shrink to the 4 small wire bundle. So I wrapped the tach harness from the tach to the power tap with harness wrap tape, similar to what BMW uses in other areas of the harness. One of the shrink wrap tubes was the correct length and diameter to go on the one extended wire that tracks down behind the cylinder to the coil wire connector. All in all, the nitpicks were not a problem and you have almost everything you need. I opted for PosiTap connectors instead of soldering wires to the bike harness, leaving the harness original in case of tach removal. The tach works well. One other small nit is that the tach goes to 12k rpm and the bike red line is 7.7 rpm. It shows this in the picture on the website. So a lot of space on the dial devoted to nothing. I do realize that an off the shelf tach like this can be wired up to red lines up to 12k and makes for providing one model tach instead of two by the tach supplier. So I would happily recommend the purchase of this tach, keeping in mind the little things I mentioned. The mount bracket is specific to R9T's but the rest is custom fitting. I had one question on my part and I called Wunderlich USA and they were very helpful. Given all this, jump in and get one.

This is a great product and looks great. Installation is easy for the experienced mechanic, and may be more of a challenge for the novice since it is not 'Plug and Play' and wire splicing is necessary. The instructions lead a bit to be desired. Pictures only. A bit of a description would be great.
