    Front Protection Bar Set, Chrome

The developing the engine protection bars for the K1600 GT and GTL, we were able to strike an ideal balance. On the one hand, we created a beautifully shaped bar that integrates perfectly into the design of the large, yet dynamically styled K1600, without making the bike appear even more massive. We followed and expanded on the lines of the fairing as well as the angle of the motor. On the other hand, we created a protection bar made of ideally shaped and complexly formed round tubing that will protect the bike, not only in a tip over situation, but also in worse mishaps.

Each engine bar is attached to the bike at three points, all of which are capable of handling large tensile and compression loads. In an impact situation, the forces are spread over the multiple attachment points. The bar need not be removed for routine maintenance, nor does it impede serviceability in any way. Cornering and ground clearances are not compromised. The bars are also fully compatible with the original BMW driving lights. Available chrome plated or powder coated black.

    Good choice
I dropped my K1600 soon after buying it. Great. So I decided this zaftig beauty needed gravity protection. I read all the forums and it was unanimous that there was no agreement. I tried a pretty poplular set and the fit was pretty bad. I spent a week on the phone with them and finally gave up. I have to say these weren't my first choice looks-wise but on the bike, they actually look pretty good. The installation instructions are a good mental exercise and I'm surprised that a product that's been around this long hasn't had a translation update. Some of the things can be interpretated a couple of ways. Also, the right side top mount can use a longer bolt as you lose some thread penetration if you have driving lights requiring the included spacer. I agree that not using torx heads is a downer but that's easily remedied. That seems to be the situation with all the bara I looked at. Weird. There's mention of torque numbers in general but no actual included torque specs so I just went with factory torque numbers. Again, that should just be on the instructions. It may sound like complaining but it's not. I think the bars overall went on easily and look good. They seem very sturdy and look like they'll help in a lot of situations. The issues I mention are relatively minor. I'm glad I bought them.

very nice product but probably the most difficult accessory I've installed on a motorcycle. All instructions are in German. Can't understand if they are sold in the USA why the instructions are not in English. Took an extraordinary amount of time which should have been a quick easy 45 minute job. Unhappy

    Well Made (as usual)
Well-built, sturdy and good-looking. Lines match the motorcycle nicely. Forget the instructions. Use common sense .. its less confusing.

    Great Product
This is a great product, looks great on the bike, and adds a comfort level knowing that should the bike ever go down, damage will be minimized. I did find the instructions a bit confusing, but I got through the installation process in about an hour and a half.

    Good Bars
These are good-looking, strong bars that installed easily, per the plans.

Ordered these w other brands in mind and second guessed my decision until I received them, once installed not a regret as they are a natural fit and look fit for my K1600! A sound investment for that one ugly moment! I purchased the black ones and the style suits the bike superbly! Excellent customer service from the Wunderlich staff! received the bars in less than a week!

    Useless instructions
They look like they would be easy to install if it were actually possible to get access to front mounting bolt. Instructions gave no guidance on how to do this except to remove every bolt on motorcycle.

Best looking bars on the market
I purchased these bars for my 2012 1600GTL and never looked back. These bars are a perfect match for this bike. Much better then the half loop which protects the cases only. Very easy to install. The extra price over the competition is offset by the appearance and protection offered. I would highly recomend these for anyone looking to add an accessory which offers great protection for your 26,000 dollar investment.

    Engine Bars
I know sooner or later, I will have a slow or no speed drop of my bike. I'm confident that these engine bars will save me a lot of damage. I really like the way they conform to the engine, and the way the black bars basically blend in with the motorcycle.

    Stylish protection
Love the bars, especially in black. Add not just protection, but to the design of the bike. I have only one complaint...the fairing is pretty wide to begin with, and the rear vertical bar then makes it about 2"+ wider to try and get my short-to-average length legs past...uncomfortable, and not sure a highway peg will be long enough to work. But the bar is wonderful, and serves it's primary purpose.

    Prefect fit!
Fitted left & right and all mounting holes aligned PERFECTLY!! All required washers, spacers and bolts were supplied. Once the lower fairings were removed installation was simple! The "only" issue: the right side mounting bolt (6mm I think) felt a bit "tight" torquing it up. A bit apprehensive on a "strip" I cut +/- 3mm off it's length. Perfect! (Bottoming out????)

    Great looking protection
Our K1600GTL is the first rental bike of this model available in New Zealand, so I know it will be dropped. These bars look fantastic on the bike, if anything they enhance the appearance. Can\\\\\\\'t comment on how effective they are......yet

    AWSOME Protection Bars
The engine protection bars are awsome. The fit was perfect. They were easy to put on with the supplied instructions and a few tools. I would advise using a torque wrench, it is aluminum that the bolts go into. Bars are so great that I will get the ones to protect the bags next and the luggage rack after that. Again Wunderlich has the perfect products for the perfect bike.

    The best for protection
There are other choices from other manufacturers, but none offer as much protection as the Wunderlich bars. As others experienced, installation is straight forward and simple. Now, where are those highway pegs, Wunderlich?

    Worth the money
I installed them. The instructions might was well be written in Greek, but you can figure it out. Removing the plastic front and the lower lights isn't difficult - but it must be done to install. Unlike others, I'm actually tested, not on purpose. The K1600GTL is a fantastic bike, but it's damn heavy. I've dropped mine twice (I'm a disabled vet and probably shouldn't have bought such a heavy bike due to my bum leg). Luckily the bars worked just fine. No damage at all. Spend the money and buy them.

Black bars look great on a Red GT
An easy installation, the bars offer great protection for the engine and look good on the red K1600GT. The bars came well packaged with all the parts. Instructions arrived in both german and english and were easy to follow (the english version anyways).

    Engine Protection Bar Set, Black
Engine Protection Bar Set, Black for the K1600GTL. Gripes first: the entire bike uses Torx screws and bolts, was disappointed that the included hardware is Allen head type hardware, now I have to carry Allen tools also. One of the supplied mounting bolts is 5mm to long (on right side of bike) and will bottom out before being tight, had to get a shorter bolt at local hardware store (good idea to check bolts that may bottom out in blind holes). The price is on the high side but I wanted the best protection available. Fit and finished of item is great, does not give the bike a distracting look, blends very well with the bike. Would recommend buying this item.

    Best Crash Protection Available
Do your homework and you'll come to the conclusion that the Wunderlich engine protection bars provide the most coverage and are the best made. I too, have a light gray K1600GT (looks white to me) and the black bars look OEM. In fact a bike this expensive should have had these installed from the factory. Do note that while these bars protect the Tupperware more than their competition, you can still easily remove all the plastic fairing bits. Nicely designed! I plan on purchasing the rear side case protection for when I travel with the panniers in place. I have asked Wunderlich to fabricate some sort of muffler protection for the rear of the bike as I ride 99% of the time without the cases on. Untapped revenue for this fine company.

    Sturdy but heavy
I can't comment on installation, as I got them installed by my dealer. These parts do the job as advertised, but they do add significant poundage to the bike's weight. On the flip side, the rear bars make putting the bike on its center stand much easier. I bought these to protect the bike in case of 0MPH drop, and they will definitely do the job.

    Superior Protection
Before ordering, I was a little reluctant to get the Wunderlich engine protection bars over the BMW version because I thought they looked too big and would spoil the looks of the bike. I received them and installed them. Actually, they look good and follow the contour of the bike. I have a light gray K1600GT and ordered the black set. From a short distance, you can't tell they are there. They look like apart of the bike. The way they are contoured, they will provide much better protection to not only the engine, but upper fairing as well. I have NOT tested this theory, but made this guess based on how they are contoured. I don't know if highway pegs will work with these bars. The BMW aux lights will install easily. Overall, I am very satisfied. I only purchased the engine protectors and not the rear set, that will be a future purchase.

Well made but be sure you know your Nm to Ft.lbs.
Bars were easy to install and I think look good. Now I have a much simpler, easier place to hook a strap when needed for Trailering, Ferry crossing, etc. On the install remember; instructions for torque are in Nm.(Newton Meters) Most americans think in Ft.lbs. Be sure to convert if you don't have a Nm torque wrench. I didn't; I guessed and stripped one. Be nice if the Germans would include the conversion.
