    Description

    Instrument Surround, Black

The instruments of the R1200 RT lay beneath a rather expansive clear plastic bubble. It not always easy to read all of the provided information, especially in bright sunlight. This instrument surround from Wunderlich, will give your bike that classic, round instrument appearance while noticeably improving the clarity and readability of the instruments and warning lights. Glare and reflections no longer obscure your view of vital information and any scratches, which may already exist on your instrument covering will be less visible due to the reduced reflection.

Made of vacuum formed, ABS plastic with a very hard finish. The part is highly scratch resistant and it has the quality appearance of a factory part. Easy to install using commercially available clear silicone adhesive. The instrument surround can also be painted if desired.

    Complements my old 2005 1200RT
    | May 25th, 2022
I'd been waiting on this for quite sometime since it's been backordered. When I received it, I was impressed with the quality and ease of installation. I liked that the instrument screen protector was precut, but just like other owners, I find it makes reading the instruments too difficult. I installed it just days before an Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 and found it extremely hard to read my instrument panel in both daytime and at night/early morning. It'd a matte finish so I thought it would be an improvement, but it's not. I'll probably remove it sometime soon. I think if I were to purchase this again, I'd opt for the silver version because its a gloss black and doesn't really blend in and look stock. The silver version would look much better and look like it was on the bike from the factory.
    Helps reduce glare
    (OTTAWA, ON - Ontario) | June 1st, 2015
Good service, perfect fit, helps reduce not eliminate glare. Didn't see point of included plastic sheet, so did not install it. Maybe it would have helped eliminate glare? Style does not quite match BMW -- edges a little too round, product is not quite the same black colour. Satisfied overall.
    Improves Instrument Readability

Build quality is excellent and the surround fits closely to the stock clear plastic facing. It's attached with a few dabs of RTV on its top edge. Installation took minutes. Wunderlich includes a pre-cut sheet of high-gloss clear vinyl that is supposed to be applied to the stock clear cover before the surround is installed. After reading numerous reports of problems with this sheeting on Wunderlich's website I elected to not use it. While the black surround does improve the aesthetics of the bland stock RT dash, I found it only marginally effective at reducing instrument face reflections. The top half of the central digital display benefited most; what I really wanted was to be able to read information in the bottom half. Reflections there and on the useful ranges of the tach and speedo remained a disappointing problem. My solution was to remove the surround and, after carefully cleaning the clear instrument face panel, and to install three pieces of a non-glare iPad screen protector (cut to just cover the tach, speedo and digital displays, the smaller pieces allowed bubble-free installation). I then reinstalled the surround. While the anti-glare sheet eliminates the reflections and allows me to read the panel under all light conditions, its distance from the plane of the displays produces a slightly "fuzzy", out of focus appearance when viewing the panel. While I can now see the bottom half of the digital display, I haven't really improved overall instrument readability. I'll live with this setup for a while and see if it grows on me. I may just remove the anti-glare film from over the tach and speedo. Bottom line on the Wunderlich Instrument Surround: by itself, full marks for build quality, ease of installation and aesthetics, 5/10 for glare reduction and overall value. With added anti-glare film on the stock instrument cover, 6/10 for readability of the digital panel, 3/10 for the tach and speedo.

    Nice fit.
    (Ormond Beach, Florida) | September 2nd, 2014
I purchased the Instrument surround and was pleased with the fit and material used in the product. But..the clear adhesive film was also included with the extremely minimal instruction provided. I was able to use liquid to "float" it in place, no problem. But again when I checked the next morning the film had bubbles despite the attention paid to avoid this effect. I removed the film and attached the surround. Disappointed with the glare reduction film, happy with the surround.
    Cluster surround.
