This item was designed for use on top of the small case I use on my R1200RS. Though hard to justify the use of a luggage rack on a case that carries a 5 kg load limit, I use the case for lightweight items and limit the use of the luggage rack to lightweight but bulky items such as tent poles or wet items such as a rain suit. As all know, the trick is to mount carefully to assure the top remains waterproof. In this context, the rack mounted easily with the hardware provided; the case remained waterproof.
