Side Stand Enlarger

Your F650 GS Twin can really benefit from the addition of this side stand plate because asphalt or soft ground can cause an unstable situation when parking on the side stand, especially when the bike is heavily laden. This Wunderlich part improves the situation by increasing the surface area of your side stand foot. It is designed to fit the shape of the original side stand perfectly and it's easy to install and that makes this accessory a sensible improvement for your BMW. When installing, apply a drop or two of Loctite or similar thread locking fluid to the retaining screws to ensure that they do not loosen and fall out. (available under the Related Products)

Note: Please see the Related Products for the optional Spike Set. The spikes not only offer additional grip with the ground, they also add some height which can reduce the amount of lean angle.

You can find less expensive enlargers for the F700GS but they all share the same problem: much of the extra footprint is forward of the stock pad, making it more likely to interfere with the ground as you swing the sidestand down. The engineers at Wunderlich clearly thought about this as the enlarger position is skewed as far as possible to the rear. I was a little skeptical with the attachment design at first (uses only 2 washers) but so far it seems pretty secure.

Fits a 2014 F700GS without modification. As for the amount of additional footprint added, I'm less enthused. Plenty of clearance to have added a much larger footprint and/or height to reduce the steep lean of the bike (i.e. I'm thinking of adding another bigger/thicker plate underneath this one, using/extending the existing screw holes). Guess the lawyers designed this one to accommodate the knee-draggers or for "universal fit".

Installation is easy, however be aware Wunderlich recommends that a thread locker be applied on the two mounting screws. I used [famous brand name] blue thread locker. The side stand enlarger definitely improves the stability of the bike on softer ground and does not interfere with anything when the side stand is retracted.

If you get tired of crushing a beer can or looking for the right piece of wood. Well made. I used some loctite to secure the screws. Tested it over several days of camping on many different soil conditions with a fully loaded bike.

Be sure to order this one if you have a 650, as it won't fit the 800 (have both bikes, thought they would be the same). I now have confidence in using the side stand, no longer needing to look for a hard surface before using the side stand. Nice bit of workmanship on the product as well!
