I decided to replace the original passenger seat on my BMW R18 2021 with this ingenious piece from Wunderlich—and honestly, it exceeded all my expectations. I mostly ride solo on urban routes, and my wife doesn’t always come along, so I was looking for a passenger solution that could be installed and removed quickly. I came across some suction-mounted options for the fender, but they didn’t feel secure enough. Other foldable or removable seats I saw completely ruined the classic, vintage look of the bike, making it look too modern. This is the only option I found that truly checks every box. When folded, it doubles as a backrest, which is a brilliant design feature. The build quality is outstanding. The materials feel premium, and the finish matches the original seat perfectly in both color and texture. The rotating mechanism is made of two interlocking components that, once assembled, become a solid, monolithic structure—like a block of stainless steel. With a simple and very accessible pull pin, you can raise or lower the seat, and it locks firmly in place with zero play. Installation is straightforward as long as you follow the instructions carefully. Everything you need is included. I only added a small amount of grease to the guide pins, since they fit very tightly—but that tight tolerance is exactly what makes the final assembly feel so solid and precise. To install it, you do need to purchase separately the Wunderlich R18 Pillion Rack Chrome, which is another beautifully engineered stainless steel piece that mounts directly to the fender. Shipping was also excellent—it only took 5 days once the order was confirmed. Avoid the cheap copies on eBay—based on reviews I’ve read, the material quality is significantly lower, and they tend to rust or fail quickly. This is one of those cases where it’s worth investing properly from the start. Your R18 deserves it.
