BMW Style Socket Kit

Here's a simple accessory outlet kit, perfect as an additional or replacement outlet for your BMW. Also well suited for other brands of bikes to which you may wish to connect your BMW plug equipped accessories.

This item is also just what's needed on bikes with the Can Bus electrical system. It connects directly to the battery and it will reliably power your electric accessories, with or without the key switched on.

The kit is supplied just as pictured above and the outlet includes a spring loaded dust cap. The in-line fuse holder is supplied unattached, so that you can place the fuse at a convenient location. The length of the wire is 50cm (approx. 20 inches)

On some instances, you may want to drill a suitably sized hole in a fairing or body panel to mount the outlet. You can also attach the outlet to the sub frame tube with the aid of the optional mounting bracket, available under the Related Products.

The wire for the product is too short. I called before ordering and asked for the longer cord offered on the other Style Socket. I was told this could not be done. I had to purchase additional wire to reach the battery on my bike. The socket also looks a little flimsy.

Good product, does what it advertises, easy to install using tie wraps, a little cleaner if you want to drill your plastic. Wish it was more water-proof, but covered connections with Goop so it will stay pretty protected

I bought this socket kit to fit into the rear (passenger) socket cut-out on my '05 R1200RT after giving up trying to source the proper BMW part for the early CanBus harnesses. The socket is well made and is shallow enough to allow plenty of clearance between the connectors and the rear frame tube in the RT's tail section. Installation took only minutes. My one grumble (and the reason for a one-star deduction) is that no washers were supplied with the socket. I was able to substitute a pair of crush washers, one under the socket head and one under the nut, to protect the finish and make tightening the securing nut easier. Wired directly to the battery with a 10A fuse, the socket allows passenger electric vest use as well as direct connection of my Battery Tender.

This product seems to be as described. It is a inexpensive option to some of the higher end outlets offered. I will primarily use it for my Battery charger/BMW style adapter. The wait for the back order was too long...other wise all went well.
