Good bars, minor fitment issue

The bars are good quality, mounting to the bike is simple and quite sturdy - particularly relative to other bars out there. My one complaint is the left-side bar comes within a fraction of a mm of the gas tank. Over several hundred on and off-road miles, the vibrations caused the paint on the tank to chip where contact was made. I have since added a clear piece of polyvinyl hose to the bars to prevent direct contact with the tank.

Excellent product. These were purchased to replace the OEM crash bars on my 2002 1150GSA. Construction is top notch - welds are very good, finish is perfect, and fitment is precise. These look like they should have been the OEM crash bars as the color matches BMW's silver nicely. Installation was simple. Instructions are well though out, easy to follow and include copious pictures. I spent a leisurely 3 hours doing the install which included; unrequired cleaning, tinkering, beer drinking, day dreaming. An unforeseen benefit / feature - there's a perfect place to mount aux lights that allows for the elimination of mounting adapters (in my Clearwater Erica application). This cleans things up a bit. If you look at the pics on Wunderlich's product page you can see cleanly mounted AUX lights using the built-in mounting point. Well worth the $$ and a significant improvement over the OEM bars. Do it!!
So good I replaced the one I had on my 1150GS

The Wunderlich crash bar was installed on my 1150GS when I boght the bike used. After a spill that bent the bar, but protected the bike, I needed another crash bar. I looked for something better and could not find anything that was as easy to install, followed the lines of the bike and looked as good as the Wunderlich crash bar. The decision was easy - replace what I already had. Nuff said.
excellent product!

I purchased this crash bar as an exact replacement part that totally did it's job. As a new years day tradition i took a ride out I 70 east of denver, co. Approaching manila road, just east of Watkins, I hit a solid sheet of ice.The rear end came around on me and went down at about 45 mph.the bike ground down the crash bar a bit and very minor scuff on the left bag.Just amazing how well that bar worked to save my bike.( 01' R1150gs), I highly recommend this product!I also highly recommend my areostitch riding suit,as it protected my body as well. This is why I spend a little more to buy really durable product instead of throwaway jap crap!!! Again I just cannot say enough good about your Quality engine protection bar set,Thank You. Newell Cox
Well built, subtle design, strong bars

I installed it onto my 1150GS and none of my friends even noticed them; this is a good thing as they appear to be just another factory part of the bike and not an add-on. I've went down offroad at slow speeds several times and on pavement at around 10mph and the bar received minimal scratches. I was able to install the bars with the front tire installed; although it would be MUCH easier with it removed.

The instructions were not that helpful. Many details such as what to do with extra bolts were missing. The bars look great, however.
Very maintenance friendly!

I bought these to replace another brand of engine protection bars that made removal of the alternator cover impossible. I can now do all my normal maintenance with no hassle. They appear to be very well-built, and offer ample protection in a tip-over. Because they don\'t wrap around the head, just make sure to protect the valve covers -- I don\'t count this as a fault, just a point worth noting. Removal of the front tire was necessary, and made installation a lot easier. Don\'t try it with the tire on - it won\'t work. Altogether a very solid product!
Good strong substancial bars

I replaced the my OEM BMW engine bars on my 1150 GSA when they bent in a slow speed ride into the ditch. I was amazed how poorly they held up so was looking for something stronger. The Wunderlich bars are much stronger looking and well braced. I'm sure they would have stood up better than the BMW bars in the same crash. These are a little fiddly to fit but once fitted they look great on the bike without being too overpowering. Needed to source 2 extra bolts that weren't included in the kit once I removed the OEM bars (these mount using different mounting points) but this wasn't a big deal. Overall I'm happy with these engine bars, seem well finished and strong.
