For an oil cooler to provide its optimal cooling performance, it must be optimally exposed to and passed through by the airflow. The function of the oil cooler is essential for maintaining a healthy thermal balance in the air-oil-cooled engine. It is positioned in the airflow of the ride wind. However, this has a disadvantage: The oil cooler is exposed to whirled-up dirt, stones, and foreign objects that hit the delicate fins of the oil cooler. Over time, dirt and insects can clog the more relaxed network and reduce cooling performance just as much as fins bent by "stone chips". In the worst case, sharp-edged foreign objects can cause damage, leading to leaks. With a damaged cooler, continuing to ride is no longer possible.

Therefore, we recommend our oil protection mesh, which consists of a fine-meshed, tough and resistant stainless steel mesh to avoid damage and catch heavy contamination before it affects the oil cooler. It reliably protects the oil cooler without reducing airflow.

I bought this for the oil cooler on my 2024 BMW R 12. I also own a 2023 BMW RnineT Scrambler and have the Wunderlich protection cover on the oil cooler on it. The quality of the one for the R 12 is similar and it works as planned. It is a little bit more time consuming (an extra 5 minutes or so) to fit on the R 12 due to removal of the cooler side cowling. Also, there is a plastic washer you need to use on the backside of the cowling that the supplied screw has to go through. The instructions are slightly off as it says as you put the cowling back on place the plastic washer from below. Can't do that. I think the below reference means from the back. So just put the screw through, place the plastic washer on in on the back side and put the cowling on.

Looks good but difficult to install

Nothing much to say here - it does the job guarding the oil cooler. The install was a bit difficult though because it requires installing washers but they always fall out. I ended up gluing the washers to the part so they won't fall out.
