The basic concept of the Original BMW hand guards is not bad at all. The steel reinforcement bar and the quality hardware is all good stuff. The protection offered by the plastic portion of the hand guards however, leaves room for improvement and that's where we come in.

If your bike is equipped with the Original BMW hand guards but you are not happy with the level of protection that they offer, this part deserves serious consideration. With these protectors, the original plastic part is replaced by a completely new, classy looking part that offers unequaled wind and weather protection, perfectly protecting hands and arms.

The aerodynamically sculpted extension directs the airflow into controlled channels, largely bypassing the hands. An astonishing side-effect: reduced turbulence means that the fingers don't get cold so quickly from below.

BMW Hand Protector

This is my third pair of hand protectors. They offer more coverage than the BMW OEM, and a tad more than Touratech. I wish they were bigger on the top. I might retro-fit the wing off the BMW Hand guards to the Wunderlich. Happy that I was able to keep the OEM frame it seems very strong. Challenging ordering parts online. Wish I could design and make my own parts. I will look to Wunderlich for future upgrades.

I bought these as they were suppose to provide so much more coverage than the stock units. For the price of them I am not sure if this is the case but will be able to better tell once I get into some foul weather. I am heading for Alaska in a few days and will update the value once I get back.

I am happy with the Wunderlich F650GS Hand Protectors. They are very easy to install (assuming that you already have mounted the BMW protection bars, which are themselves easy enough to install). They provide much better wind and rain protection than the BMW accessory protectors and winglets, cost less and are easier to mount. The only negative thing I can say is that their looks could be better. The just don't quite look right sitting on the ends of the bars. But they do their job, anyway.

it hasn't gotten cold enough for me to tell how well these work, but i like them so far. i do feel my heated handgrips better on cooler mornings.

Not a considerable improvement from OEM BMW guards

They offer a bit more protection to my arms but not that much to the knuckles. Although the concept is really nice, the problem comes to the steel guards OEM guards, these touch both brake/clutch levers before allowing the plastic hand protectors to go a bit more up... this is a must in order to fully protect hands from cold chilly wind. That said, the plastic hand protectors barely cover the knuckles. I have the BMW Touring screen and these protectors have a 10 mm clearance with the handlebar fully locked on both sides, no problems here.

As a year round rider, i need as much protection from the elements such as wind and wet conditions. The 2010 F650GS i bought from the BMW dealer had the OEm guards/wings already installed. What i found was they provided minimal protection from things that could make your hands cold or uncomfortable. The Wunderlich Hand protectors are a great upgrade from the OEM BMW Guards for several reasons size of protection and area and a nice side benefit. its easy to remove them. The BMW guards require you unbolt the large torx blot at the end of the bar and slide the guard off. The wunderlich ones can be taken off with ease just for those times you want to ride in the summer hot weather. the hand protectors will we a welcome upgrade to anyone who needs the benefits of larger guards which block more of the bad things, which make your riding more fun.
