Unfortunately, the original steering stops are simply not strong enough. They can be damaged by harmless falls or a strong knock. If this happens, the top yoke (upper clamp) can be damaged, and the fork tubes and Telelever are vulnerable as well. All this can lead to expensive repairs and a great deal of aggravation.
We have opted for a new approach with the R 1200 GS LC. The protector brackets bolt onto the lower fork bridge pinch bolts and the top bumpers contact the Telelever just before the original steering stop would make contact. This softens the blow and as the rubber bumper compresses, it progressively becomes a solid stop for the forks. Also, this makes fully turning the handlebar significantly more pleasant.
Sold as a complete set of left and right hand side complete with all fittings.

These are the best looking, and most functional compared to what else is on the market for this task in my opinion. Fit was precise and the instructions were very good. Bumpers stop just before the uppers as claimed. To lock your steering, just push the handle bars snug so that the fork tubes compress the bumpers slightly and turn your key. Overall nice product.
