    Description

    Tank Protection Bars

Available in: Black, Silver, or Chrome

This tank protection bar not only reliably protects the tank but the faring of the stem and the at-risk radiator units. Together with the engine protection bar, it forms a sophisticated 360-degree protection concept for passive safety: In the event of a crash or fall, the effective forces are optimally distributed across the structure of the protection bar and the durable attachment points, thus avoiding high forces. The protection bar integrates very well into the design of the bike on a visual level and highlights the striking look. The tank \protection bar is made from a composite of 25 mm and 18 mm precision stainless steel tubing. These consist of tube segments that are shaped on CNC pipe bending machines specifically for each model and then clean welded.

The protective function and product design are the central focus with our protection bars. We therefore off the protection bar in black. The steel surface is powder-coated. This means the clever protection integrates into the design of your BMW.

    Look Good...Pain to Install...Questionable Protection
    | April 28th, 2021
I bought these in conjunction with the engine guards for my 2020 BMW R1250RT. Had the Wunderlich protection bars on my previous 2012 BMW R1200RT and appreciated the protection they provided, having dropped the bike twice, and knew the installation could be time consuming. Let's just say, I wasn't expecting this to take as long as it did. Over the course of two days, I eventually was able to get these installed. The instructions are lacking to say the least. At first, I thought I'd have to take off all the fairings on both sides of the bike to install these. I think, after having worked on it for quiet a while, I realized only the upper fairing needed to be removed. I was confused almost right off of the bat as to the exact location of where the bolts were supposed to screw into. The clutch side of the bike was much more difficult to move into position because of the gas tank itself. You kind of have to twist and force it into the correct orientation. Then you have to deal with getting the spacer in behind the guard while trying to thread the bolt into bike. It was very frustrating and time consuming...for me at least. I also had to run out and purchase a longer bolt for one of the sides, I believe it was the clutch side as well, because I couldn't get the included bolt for that side to engage in the threads. I thought I had put the wrong size spacer in but that wasn't the case. Finally after finishing the installation, I realized two things...one of the screws that connects the top guard to the bottom guard, is in direct contact with the fairing. It actually extends out far enough that it's going to rub up against the fairing and scratch it. I know the vibration from the bike will cause it to damage that part of the fairing. I would include a picture to indicate where it come in contact but can't find a way to upload my photos to this review. Again. this was on the clutch side of the bike. Second, if the bike falls over this will protect the tank, but it's not going to protect the side mirrors or at least it doesn't look like it will. The mirrors extend out beyond the bars protection. I hope to never find out. I do like how they look. Just wish there were better instructions or a video to show the installation. They are always helpful!
