I bought a very similar item from Bob's BMW a few years back, and had the bike dealer serviced and never put it into use - the other bikes' filters are not recessed Finally did need it a month or so ago (the Bob's one) and put it onto the end of a 3/8 rachet as designed and onto the filter on my R1200GS... And twisted the toy tool nearly into crap before I stopped and put a wrench on it instead. The POS Bob's BMW tool is made of soem kind of plastic. It held together long enough to get the filter off and the new one back on and then it went straight into the trash, and I went hunting for this one. This item is nearly identical to the Bob's toy, except it's made of stamped steel and I believe you could stand on it and it wouldn't show the abuse. In truth I have not had an opportunity to use it yet but it is MUCH stronger, just as thin so it fits onto my filter in the recess. This is the one you want if you have an air-cooled R1200 with the recessed filter.
