Unfortunately, the original steering stops are simply not strong enough. They can be damaged by harmless falls or a strong knock. If this happens, the top yoke (upper clamp), fork tubes, and Telelever can be damaged. All this can lead to expensive repairs and a great deal of aggravation.

We have opted for a new approach with the R 1200 & 1250 GS LC. The protector brackets bolt onto the lower fork bridge pinch bolts, and the top bumpers contact the Telelever just before the original steering stop would make contact. This softens the blow, and as the rubber bumper compresses, it progressively becomes a solid stop for the forks. Also, this makes fully turning the handlebar significantly more pleasant due to the absence of the original limitation.

Overall quality of product is high and performs as expected. Concerning the installation: The protective covering which is placed on the support bracket for the steering stops did not stick because adhesive was all dried out. I had to use another adhesive in order to get it to stick. Probably too old. Then, I was unable to secure the steering stop bracket to the final securing bracket with the enclosed two small screws without first purchasing longer screws and installing them first. This step I found frustrating with the enclosed short kit screws. After easily attaching the longer machine screws and securing the bracket, I then removed the longer screws one at a time and installed the proper kit screws from Wunderlich. If the kit screws would have been longer the job would have been so much easier. Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase, but the install could have been easier. Finally, enclosed in the kit was a lubricant packet which is not needed after a call to Wunderlich.

Excellent overall quality. I had the Touratech model previously and it stripped out easily. The overall quality between the two is night and day. The TT seems to have been thrown together and mass produced, more complex and a pain to install. The Wunderlich is a much better built, easier to install product. The bump stops are thicker and more durable and there isn’t any plastic parts to the piece.

This steering stop has been a saver in my previous bike when crossing thru TAT from Hatteras,NC to Oregon. That's why I bought it again for my new R1250 GS Adv 40 years Edition. A little hard to install but it pays off to have such protection. Nothing to compare with other German competitors... Even the packaging is fantastic.. A pleasure to see and handle.
