Wunderlich Valve Cover & Cylinder Guards
The cylinders on a BMW boxer are exposed and vulnerable to excessive damage. Stone strikes, offroad falls, or scraping a plastered wall as you maneuver in tight spaces make it easy to scratch the valve cover. On the 1250's shift cam engines, there's also the issue that the construction of the shift cam mechanism is exceptionally elaborate. Due to the fact the valve covers are mounted only using force locking, there is a risk that the valve cover can be displaced relative to the cylinder head. This can happen following a forceful impact causing issues with the elaborate valve drive. This is the primary reason the additional protection of the valve cover is essential. Our guards are characterized by covering the valve cover with low tolerance and narrow gap dimensions accurately fitting the contour of the bike. The protectors consist of impact-resistant, fiber glass reinforced, durable plastic. On the inside, which faces the valve cover, we have constructively integrated segments with an elastic material resistant to extreme temperatures. These segments are designed to be impact-absorbing in terms of material hardness and elasticity.
When impacted by exterior forces, their equally supportive and protective effectiveness ensures that these are absorbed and distributed equally across the segments and avoid force spikes. An inset stainless steel insert rounds off the high-quality design and the function of the protectors. In the worst-case scenario, it protects against grinding of the valve cover and thus avoids the inevitably associated loss of oil. The protectors, therefore, contribute to avoiding potential secondary damage. In many instances, they let you carry on riding after the mishap. Installation is simple and comes with everything you need for installation.
Please note: Our valve cover & cylinder protectors only fit with the BMW standard valve covers.

I bought these to protect my valve covers from rocks and such with no expectations of them protecting the covers in a crash. That being said, they are expensive for a plastic cover.
